You want the most fragrant juicy coffee you can buy at a reasonable price? This might be it. The Gichathaini washing station doesn't miss. Sweet juicy orange and bright cranberry like acidity with sweetness like raw sugar cane and tropical notes of papaya. It has no shortage of flavor. Think about a Jamba Juice smoothie when you drink this but like...hotter. Wait that doesn't sound great. Whatever, it's delicious. On a scale of fun, funner, funnest, we'd call this funner.

Gichathaini is a large washing station within the Nyeri region and has over 700 active members/farmers. This one in particular is a microlot and what that means within this context is that it is a single days deliveries that cupped particularly well in comparison to other days and was then purchased by Cafe Imports Kenya green buyer as a microlot.
The processing that takes place is a pretty straight forward washed process Kenya; coffee cherry is picked and depulped the same day, then is fermented in open air tanks made of concrete for 24-48 hours. Its then washed thoroughly for 12-72 hours and then laid on raised beds to dry.

Why is this coffee special?

Kenyan coffees much like Ethiopian coffees are one of the best cost to quality of cup crops out there. They have a distinct flavor profile that can be at times divisive, extremely fragrant, juicy, teeming with acidity and candy like sweetness. Their uniqueness is something that is a must have on our menu as often as we can ensure it.
